Things to Do With Kids in Orihuela Costa
Orihuela Costa is not one town but a run of coastal urbanisations — Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Villamartín, Los Dolses, Punta Prima, Cabo Roig and Campoamor. For families that means most plans are within a ten to fifteen minute drive.
This is a practical guide written for parents who are here: what to do on a good day, a hot day, a wet day, and when it is somebody's birthday.
A Dream Park guide, Playa Flamenca
Beaches and coves
The coast is a chain of small coves and a few wider bays. Playa Flamenca and Cala Bosque in La Zenia are the most manageable with young children — sand, gentle water and cafés nearby. Punta Prima is wider and suits older children who want room to swim.
In summer, mornings before 11am and evenings after 5pm are far easier than the middle of the day.
Outdoor playgrounds and walks
Most urbanisations have a neighbourhood playground, and the coastal promenades between the coves are paved, largely flat and fine with a pushchair or a scooter. The stretch between Punta Prima and Cabo Roig is the best known.
Markets, shopping and family entertainment
The Saturday morning market at Playa Flamenca is one of the largest on this stretch of coast and is easy with children if you arrive early. Zenia Boulevard is a large open-air shopping centre with restaurants and a cinema; Habaneras in Torrevieja is fully enclosed, which matters when the weather turns.
Indoor play
Indoor play is what fills the gaps: winter rain, August heat and the late afternoon stretch when children still have energy but nobody wants to be outside. Dream Park is the indoor play option in Playa Flamenca, inside Centro Comercial Flamenca Beach, with a café so parents can sit in the same room.
Regular play does not need to be booked in advance.
Rainy day and hot day plans
Wet days and the hottest weeks of summer need the same answer: somewhere covered where children can move. Indoor play, cinema, bowling and enclosed shopping centres are the realistic options in this area.
Birthdays
If you live here, birthdays arrive quickly and flats and villas are not always the right size for a class of children. Venues that run the party for you take care of the space, the entertainment and the clearing up. Dream Park runs children's birthday parties in Playa Flamenca; packages and prices are set by the team and confirmed when you request a date.
Orihuela Costa or Orihuela city?
They are two different places in the same municipality. Orihuela Costa is the coastal strip described here. Orihuela city is inland, roughly 30-40 minutes away, with a historic centre and museums. Visitors booking activities often confuse the two.
